We are currently looking to recruit for the following positions:
University Summer Placements - Mechanical / Mechatronics / Electronics
About the Role
We have an opportunity for two summer placement university students with a proven interest in mechanical/electronic/mechatronic engineering to join our engineering department. The placement duration will be for 3 months (with some flexibility), based on-site at Reliance Precision Limited (Huddersfield, West Yorkshire). The successful candidates will report to the Head of Engineering Technology and Design.
The project
The focus of this placement will be to develop and carry out experiments or test programs for new or existing Reliance products.
You will work collaboratively with the product development and electronics teams to:
- Define the test requirements for a given product.
- Design and manufacture test hardware (mechanical).
- Specify the required measurement equipment needed to interface with the hardware.
- Complete a test program, documenting the setup and operation of the test.
- Process the captured data and report the results.
Outside of this project there may be opportunities to work on other activities including:
- Development of technology demonstrators to support the sales process.
- Input into mechanical or electronic design projects.
Skills and Qualifications
The role is open to students of any year and the key attributes we are looking for are a passion for engineering and an aptitude for technical communication and learning new skills.
Useful knowledge and experience includes:
- Knowledge of software engineering.
- Knowledge of electronic engineering.
- Knowledge of CAD software.
- Experience working with micro controllers.
- Experience working with motor drives.

Hours of Work

Mechatronics 12-month University Industrial Placement
About the Role
We have an opportunity for a university placement student with a proven interest in electronics/mechatronics to join our engineering department. The placement duration will be for 12 months (with some flexibility), based on-site at Reliance Precision Limited (Huddersfield, West Yorkshire). The successful candidate will report to the Head of Electronics.
The project
The main project this placement will focus on is the design and use of a flexible user interface for motor control and condition monitoring.
The goal of the project is to develop a flexible user interface demonstrator that will allow:
- Various types of motor to be controlled.
- Data relating to the condition of the motor and the apparatus it is driving to be captured, stored, and displayed.
- Control strategies to be developed for multi-axis control via a micro controller and associated motor drive.
Outside of this project there may be opportunities to work on other activities including:
- Design and completion of performance characterisation tests for new products.
- Development of technology demonstrators to support the sales process.
