Ultimate Apprentice Military Challenge

On Thursday 5 February 2026, we took part in the Ultimate Apprentice Military Challenge. The event was organised by the Army’s Headquarters North and the 4th Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment (4RYORKS) and was hosted at Worsley Barracks in York as part of National Apprenticeship Week. The event was supported by the Yorkshire and Humber Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (YHAAN).

A total of 47 apprentices, accompanied by 15 managers from ten regional businesses, participated in the event. It was designed to inspire, challenge, and test participants, all while fostering teamwork, building confidence, resilience and having fun.

The event was an immersive experience which introduced us all to new ideas and helped us develop new skills. As you can see from the photograph above, we even wore military uniforms and camouflage cream to get us into the spirit of things. We were also able to try some Army rations. The activities we took part in included:

  • An airsoft shooting competition on the indoor ranges
  • A command task
  • Fieldcraft training in camouflage and concealment
  • Battlefield first aid
  • Watching military vehicle demonstrations
  • The ‘Hang Tough Challenge’.

Thank you to everyone involved. It was a fantastic day, and we all really enjoyed it.
